U2‘s Bono and the Edge covered Swedish band ABBA‘s classic “S.O.S.” during a new edition of BBC Radio 2‘s “Piano Room.”

During the show, accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra at the BBC Maida Vale studio, the pair also performed their own “Vertigo.”

In an extended interview on BBC Sounds, the Edge said, “We’re big fans of this Scandinavian band, appreciators of their work in a way that grew over years. We are fans of the Bee Gees which people wouldn’t have imagined. We’re fans of lots of great songwriters who aren’t necessarily seen as very hip, and I guess we’re just appreciators of their work.”

“I’ll tell you what, they’re just better songs,” Bono added. “You can’t be empirical about everything in art, but sometimes songs are just better.”

U2 dropped Songs of Surrender, a companion album to Bono’s recent memoir “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,” on Friday, March 17. U2 have reimagined 40 songs from their catalog for the new album.

Songs Of Surrender was curated and produced by The Edge. The band revisits some of the most celebrated songs of their 40+ year career, including “With Or Without You,” “One,” “Beautiful Day,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Invisible.”
