Madonna Earns Record-Extending 64th U.K. Top 10 Single With ‘Popular’

Madonna has returned to the U.K. Top 10 after a gap of 15 years.

“Popular” by The Weeknd, featuring both Madonna and Playboi Carti, jumped four places to No. 10.

The track – originally included in the soundtrack for The Weeknd’s divisive HBO dramedy “The Idol” – spent a total of 12 weeks inside the wider U.K. Top 40 before finally breaking into the best ten songs on the chart.

For the Weeknd, it marks his 16th Top 10 single, and the first for rapper Playboi Carti.

Meanwhile, Madonna extends her record as the female artist with the most U.K. Top 10s in Official Singles Chart history to 64.

The only artists with more Top 10s to their name above Madonna are Elvis Presley, with 76, and Cliff Richard, with 68.

Madonna was last present inside the Top 10 in 2009, when “Celebration” peaked at No. 3. Her first career Top 10 was “Holiday,” which reached Number 6 in 1984.

This also means that there is a gap of 40 years in between Madonna’s first U.K. Top 10 and her latest.
