Elton John Performs Final Show Of Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour

Elton John played the final concert of his farewell tour in Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday, July 8.

The Rocket Man expressed gratitude to his fans, band and family during an emotional speech just before concluding the last concert of his mammoth “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.”

“It’s the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour show, and the last one,” he noted just before singing “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” the last among the 23-song setlist. “We’re ending it in the beautiful city of Stockholm, Sweden. My very first show in Sweden was on the 7th of July in 1971, so it’s more or less 52 years to the day I first played in Sweden.”

“When we set off on my final tour in 2018, I couldn’t have foreseen in my wildest dreams the twists and turns and the highs and lows this tour – and the whole world – would have experienced in the next five years,” John said in a statement released after the concert.

“And every step of the way, my fans have been there. They have stuck with me, they have supported me, they have been patient, and they have kept turning out for every single last show. Tonight has been magical. I’m trying to process it, and I don’t think it will sink in for a while yet that I’m finally finished touring. I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss the fans and how much their support has humbled me – it will stay with me forever,” he added.

The legendary musician played on 330 stages during the long-running tour, which kicked off in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in September 2018.

The tour was interrupted multiple times due to the Covid-19 pandemic and John’s hip injury.
